'Making a Murderer': Steven Avery responds to ex-fiancée Jodi Stachowski

WAUPUN, Wis., Jan. 22 (UPI) -- Steven Avery, the main subject of Netflix's Making a Murderer, has responded to his ex- fiancée Jodi Stachowski from prison after comments she made to Nancy Grace.

In a letter obtained by ABC affiliate WISN in Milwaukee, Avery addresses Stachowski and the condemning comments she made while appearing on Nancy Grace last week.

The 53-year-old convict alleges that Stachowski must have been paid off by the state to make those comments and to do the interview. "How much money Jodi get to talk bad," he questions in the letter. "The state $."

"The real killer is still out there. Who is he stalking now? I am really innocent of this case and that is the truth!!! The truth will set me free!!!!!!!" Avery continues, denying any involvement in the murder of Teresa Halbach.

Stachowski, who was also featured on Making a Murderer, was originally seen as supportive of Avery and his innocence until she told Grace that Avery is "not innocent...I ate two boxes of rat poison just so I could go to the hospital, and get away from him, and ask them to get the police to help me."

"Steven`s one person I don`t trust. He`s like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. A nice person or semi nice person. And behind closed doors, he`s a monster," Stachowski said.

Avery however is convinced that Stachowski is being told to make those comments by the state of Wisconsin. "Why would Jodi now made accusations contrary to what she said on my 10-hour documentary unless Jodi was threatened in some way by the state of Wisconsin," he wrote to Fox 6 News also in Milwaukee.

"The real killer is still out there. Who is he stalking now? I am really innocent of this case and that is the truth!!! The truth will set me free!!!!!!!" Avery continues maintaining his innocence.

Avery's nephew, Brendan Dassey who was also charged and convicted for helping his uncle kill Halbach, has also made headlines after he was moved from the prison holding him following his brother Brad Dassey pleading with professional wrestlers to go visit him.

Released in December, Making a Murderer has caught the nation by storm inspiring fans to investigate the case on their own and to call for the release of Avery and Dassey with major online petitions having surfaced on the White House's website and Change.org.

Despite gathering enough signatures, The White House responded to the petition saying that President Obama could not free Avery and Dassey due to the crime bring a state criminal offense.
