NEW YORK, Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Rapper J. Cole was caught off guard during a recent interview when director Ryan Coogler broke news of his secret marriage to longtime girlfriend Melissa Heholt.
During Monday's #MLKNow event in New York City, Creed director Coogler led the interview, asking "How did getting married change you?"
The Forest Hills Drive rapper, born Jermaine Cole, responded to the first-time interviewer with a nervous laugh, saying "Oh, what is that? That was like the one thing to not do."
"I never interviewed someone before," Coogler said, "my bad."
Cole reportedly proposed to longtime girlfriend Melissa Heholt sometime last year, but news of their marriage had been kept under wraps.
