LOS ANGELES, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- Brooke Shields says she and Tom Cruise reconciled prior to his wedding to Katie Holmes.

The 50-year-old actress revealed as much in an interview Wednesday on Dirty, Sexy, Funny with Jenny McCarthy. Shields said the 53-year-old actor apologized in person after calling her "irresponsible" for endorsing postpartum depression medication.

"He came over to my house," Shields said. "It was funny because when he called me, he said, 'I'd like to have a sit-down and a talk with you' ... [My publicist] said, 'Whatever you do, don't go over there. Just make them come to you' ... [He] didn't come with anybody, drove himself, there wasn't anybody outside."

Shields had supported postpartum depression medication in her 2006 memoir Down Came the Rain, which chronicled her struggle with the condition. After reconciling with Cruise, Shields faced criticism for attending Cruise's wedding to Holmes later that year.

"People were so up in arms about my saying yes," the star recalled. "And I said, 'First of all, if you get invited to that wedding, you go.' And I had no malice in my heart. It was still a wedding ... Life is too short ... I don't want to waste the time anymore on anything petty."

Shields also revealed she and Holmes gave birth to their respective daughters, Grier and Suri, at the same hospital on April 18, 2009. The model is also mom to 12-year-old daughter Rowan with husband Chris Henchy.

She discussed her kids' influence on her career Wednesday on Today.

"It's actually really fun to be a part of something that is purely pleasurable and entertaining," she said of her new Hallmark movie, Flower Shop Mystery: Mum's the Word. "It's really been rewarding for me [to star in something my kids can watch] ... It's nice to have something we can share."

Shields is known for her early modeling work with Calvin Klein and for playing Susan Keane on NBC sitcom Suddenly Susan. She has since portrayed Kat Young on Lifetime series Army Wives and voices Beverly Goodman on the Adult Swim show Mr. Pickles.
