"She was really proud...She's my backbone. But all she wanted to do was meet Jon Hamm," the actor said of bringing his mom to the Golden Globe Awards. "I was like, 'OK, mom. You can meet Jon Hamm. Hold on; I got to do some interviews.' And she's like, 'I need to meet Jon Hamm right now.'"

When Hamm was announced as the winner, Malek's mother wasn't surprised. "I'm like, 'You understand that's my competition tonight, right?'" Malek asked his mother. "We're both up for Best Actor and she's like, 'It doesn't matter.' And then, we were sitting down and his name got called and he won. She said, 'He deserved it.' I'm like, 'OK.'"

The 34-year-old did mention however this is mother is still extremely supportive and was perhaps only trying to shield him from disappointment. "She loves me to death, but I think she was protecting me to a certain extent," he added.
