LOS ANGELES, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Kate Mansi will indeed depart Days of Our Lives.

The 27-year-old actress confirmed as much Wednesday on Instagram after news of her exit broke this week. Mansi joined the NBC soap opera as Abigail Deveraux in 2011.

"After much thought, I've decided the timing was right for me to set sail from Salem," the star wrote. "I must say that I have thoroughly enjoyed every single beautiful and messy moment of being Abigail, and will always treasure our time together."

"I want to be clear in saying that this was not a decision I took lightly," she shared. "It was important for me to see Abigail through the most recent storyline, as well as through the show's history 50th anniversary celebration. I can confidently say that I poured everything I had into Abigail, especially this last year, and cannot wait for you to see what's coming!"

"I also want to express how very proud I am to have had the privilege of being a part of this incredibly hard-working daytime community for the past five years," she added. "I thank you for the all the support and love you've shown Abigail and me. Oh, and one more thing... STAY TUNED! I PROMISE you, you won't want to miss what's coming!"

Mansi's character is the eldest child of supercouple Jack Deveraux (Matthew Ashford) and Jennifer Horton (Melissa Reeves), and immediately gained interest with her Chad DiMera (Billy Flynn) romance. Abigail recently gave birth to Chad's son Thomas, and the couple are expected to get engaged before Mansi's departure.

"I'm most like Abby because I'm organized, and I think we both take ourselves a little too seriously," the actress told Glamour in December. "I'm least like Abby in that I'm very transparent and Italian that way, and totally wear my emotions on my sleeve."

Days of Our Lives premiered in 1965, and has aired more than 12,750 episodes. Mansi is expected to remain on air at least through May, and will next star in the forthcoming thriller Muse with Riley Egan.
