LONDON, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- British comedian Ricky Gervais has offered an advance mea culpa for anything he might say as host of next weekend's Golden Globe Awards ceremony.

The actor and filmmaker has earned mixed reviews for mocking the celebrity attendees during his three previous engagements as emcee of the telecast, which honors excellence in film and television.

"Because I can see the future, I'd like to apologise now for the things I said at next week's Golden Globes," Gervais tweeted. "I was drunk & didn't give a [expletive.]"

This year's event is to air live on NBC Jan. 10.

Gervais is best known for his work on the British TV comedy series The Office. Extras, Life is Short, An Idiot Abroad and Derek.
