LONDON, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- British actress and United Nations Goodwill Ambassador Emma Watson took to Twitter to show support for the next actress who will play Hermione Granger -- the brainy wizard Watson originated and portrayed in eight Harry Potter films.

It was announced late last year that Noma Dumezweni would be playing Hermione in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, a London stage play featuring characters from the Harry Potter books and movies, and set 19 years after the events of the last episode, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

The casting of Dumezweni created buzz on the Internet because the actress is black and Watson, who first played the role on film, is white. J.K. Rowling, the author who wrote the Harry Potter books, publicly voiced her approval shortly after the casting was revealed.

"Can't wait to see Noma Dumezweni as Hermione on stage this year," Watson tweeted Saturday, along with a string of heart emojis. "#harrypotterandthecursedchild #2016"
