'M*A*S*H' icon Wayne Rogers dead at 82

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 1 (UPI) -- M*A*S*H and House Calls star Wayne Rogers has died of complications from pneumonia. He was 82.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed Rogers' Thursday death with the actor's former publicist.

Rogers left the Korean War-set, medical comedy M*A*S*H in 1975 after three years reportedly because he felt his Trapper John army-doctor character was playing second fiddle to Alan Alda's more popular Hawkeye.

The Alabama native went on to play another physician on House Calls 1979-82, and his film credits include Odds Against Tomorrow, Cool Hand Luke, Chamber of Horrors, Pocket Money, WUSA and Ghosts of Mississippi.

Rogers also made appearances on TV's Law of the Plainsman, Zane Grey Theater and Gunsmoke, and he was a frequent guest on Fox News Channel's Cashin' In investment program.
