Ryan Phillippe, girlfriend Paulina Slagter engaged

MIAMI, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- Ryan Phillippe and girlfriend Paulina Slagter are reportedly engaged.

Sources confirmed as much this week, telling news outlets that the 41-year-old actor proposed to Slagter at Seaspice restaurant in Miami, Fla., on Christmas day.

"They ate facing the river at the owner's table," an insider told E! News. "She was really cute and humble about the way she showed off the ring."

Phillippe started dating Slagter in 2011, and confirmed their relationship on The Howard Stern Show in April. The actor had nothing but good things to say about the 24-year-old law school student, praising both her beauty and intelligence.

"She's awesome," he gushed to Stern. "When people see her they have these judgements because she could be a model but she's about to graduate Stanford Law ... I'm very involved in civil rights issues, an so to be with a woman who could actually make an impact in the legal realm -- that's a beautiful thing."

Phillippe was previously wed to Reese Witherspoon from 1999 to 2008, and shares 16-year-old daughter Ava and 12-year-old son Deacon with the actress. He also is father to 4-year-old daughter Kai with actress Alexis Knapp.

Phillippe recently played Ben Crawford on Season 1 of the ABC anthology series Secrets and Lies, which will return for a second season in 2016. The new season will star Michael Ealy, with returning star Juliette Lewis as Det. Andrea Cornell.
