LOS ANGELES, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- Chris Martin is being sued for allegedly hitting photographer Richard Terry with his car in January.

The paparazzo claims in court documents obtained by news outlets this week the 38-year-old English singer intentionally hit him with his Jeep while leaving Giorgio Baldi restaurant in Santa Monica, Calif.

Terry alleges Martin was driving with ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow in the passenger seat when the singer sharply turned the wheel, causing the car to jump the curb and knock him to the ground. He claims the Coldplay frontman left the scene without checking on him.

Martin is being accused of having a "significant history of repeated and ongoing violent acts" against the paparazzi. Terry alleges he suffered "permanent and serious" physical and psychological injuries, and requests the singer pay medical bills, property damages, legal fees and an unspecified sum.

Another photographer across the street at the time took pictures of the incident, causing some to believe the alleged hit was a setup. Terry claims Martin's actions were "intentional, malicious and oppressive" and meant to "hurt, injure, embarrass and otherwise harm" him.

Martin and Paltrow have finalized their divorce since the alleged incident, and the singer is now seeing Peaky Blinders actress Annabelle Wallis. He last released A Head Full of Dreams with Coldplay on Dec. 4, and will kick off an accompanying tour Mar. 31, 2016.
