NEW YORK, Dec. 20 (UPI) -- Former Opie and Anthony co-host Anthony Cumia has been arrested for allegedly strangling a 26-year-old woman at his home on Long Island, N.Y.

WPIX11-TV said the 54-year-old radio shock jock was taken into custody after the Saturday morning altercation.

He was charged Sunday with strangulation, criminal mischief, assault and unlawful imprisonment.

The alleged female victim was not identified. Neither the extent of her injuries nor her relationship with Cumia were immediately known.

Cumia has been host of the online, paid-subscription show The Anthony Cumia Show since last year. The Opie and Anthony program, which co-starred Greg "Opie" Hughes, began in 1995 and ended in 2014 with Cumia's firing for making racist remarks on social media.

Before that, he and Hughes sparked outrage when they reported the car-crash death of the mayor of Boston as an April Fool's Day joke. They also broadcast a call-in interview with a couple who claimed to be having sex in New York's St. Patrick's Cathederal.
