SLATE HILL , N.Y., Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Actor and activist James Cromwell was arrested during a peaceful demonstration at New York's Competitive Power Ventures power plant construction site.

"Power to the people!" Cromwell led the group of 30 protesters in chanting Friday, The Times Herald-Record reported.

The 75-year-old Babe and American Horror Story actor, along with two other protesters, were handcuffed by state police after they refused to stop blocking the plant's entrance.

The trio reportedly were bound by an interlocking device around their necks, which required a bolt cutter to remove. Three other people were also taken into police custody.

The six people were cited for disorderly conduct and released. They are scheduled to appear in Wawayanda Town Court on Jan. 4.

The protesters contend the plant will emit toxins, cause illness, lower property values and threaten species, such as the bog turtle and the northern long-eared bat, which live near the plant.
