Michael C. Hall and 'Lazarus' cast perform on 'The Late Show'

NEW YORK, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Dexter star Michael C. Hall and the rest of the cast of David Bowie's off-Broadway musical Lazarus performed the show's title track live Thursday night.

Appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Hall took center-stage to sing Bowie's latest single to a jazz-rock melody. The song "Lazarus" is also the latest single from Bowie's upcoming album Blackstar, out Jan. 8.

Lazarus is Bowie's latest theater project and a sequel to The Man Who Fell To Earth, the 1976 British science fiction film in which he starred. On stage at the New York Theater Workshop through Jan. 20, the new musical features several new Bowie songs.

The artistic director of the New York Theater Workshop, James C. Nicola, had a hard time explaining what category this production falls under when the play was announced in April. He said at the time, "It's going to be a play with characters and songs -- I'm calling it music theater, but I don't really know what it's going to be like."
