Joined by guitarist Monte Pittman, the duo reportedly sang "Imagine," by John Lennon, "Ghosttown," and "Like a Prayer" at Place de la République, near the site of the Paris attacks which occurred in mid-November.
The mother-son pair shared a photo on Instagram before the performance, announcing the location and inviting followers to join.
During the performance, Madonna embraced her son and swayed as he too sang along. The 57-year-old pop star and mother wore an oversized coat with fur trim to the intimate event.
In the immediate aftermath of the attacks in Paris, Madonna reportedly broke down in tears while performing in Stockholm, Sweden. To the audience, she explained the difficulty of performing in the midst of the tragedy, "so I need to take this moment to acknowledge the tragedy, the tragic killings, assassinations and the senseless endings of precious life that occurred last night in Paris," she said.
Of the attackers, she asserted, "They want to shut us up. They want to silence us. And we won't let them. We will never let them! Because there is power in unity and I do believe that as much chaos and pain and senseless violence and terrorism that occurs around this world -- not just in Paris -- as much as that does occur, there is more goodness in this world. We are here to prove it."
