LONDON, Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Burt Reynolds is coming under fire for remarks slamming Charlie Sheen weeks after Sheen publicly admitted to being HIV-positive.

Appearing on British talk show Loose Women on Tuesday, Reynolds held nothing back when he was asked about Sheen's HIV announcement in November on Today.

"He's handled it badly, I think," said Reynolds, 79. "His father is a very, very decent man and a dear friend of mine. I feel bad for him but Charlie, I don't feel bad for him. He's getting what he deserves. If you're going to misbehave like that, they're going to get you.

"He misbehaved badly. Very badly. But you know, when you're that age, it's tough. All those things are coming at you, and it's difficult."

Fans quickly took to social media to defend Sheen, 50, and criticize Reynolds' comments as harsh and ignorant.

Sheen's former Two and a Half Men co-star Jenny McCarthy and ex-fiancée Brett Rossi have also attacked Sheen since his announcement. Rossi is suing Sheen, accusing him of hiding his HIV-positive status from her while they dated.

Sheen's lawyer, Martin D. Singer, said they are vigorously fighting the suit.
