LOS ANGELES, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- When it comes to aging, actress and director Meg Ryan believes there are more important things to talk about.

Speaking with Porter magazine in an interview published in its December issue, Ryan, 54, said despite Hollywood's negative fixation on the appearances of aging stars, she loves her age.

"I love my life right now," she told the outlet, which celebrated "incredible women" and featured Emma Watson on the cover. "I love the person I've become, the one I've evolved into. In my life I've been scrappy as hell, but I feel easy with things now. I think that comes with age."

When it comes to the media's reaction to her visible aging, the When Harry Met Sally actress says the conversation "about looks and hair and our roots," is "interesting and funny for five minutes, but it's not that interesting."

Discussing her personal life in the rare interview, Ryan mentions she still works with her ex, John Mellencamp, having hired him to write music for her directorial debut, Ithaca.

"He's world class," she told Porter. "There's not one speck of music that's not his. He's got some kind of magic touch."

The actress, who keeps much of her life from the public eye, most recently made an appearance in July at the Schiaparelli fashion show during Paris Haute Couture Week. She split from John Mellencamp, who is now reportedly dating supermodel Christie Brinkley, last year.
