BRISBANE, Australia, Nov. 30 (UPI) -- Cancelled video game archive Unseen64 and DidYouKnowGaming? have revealed new footage of THQ Studio Australia's canned Avengers video game.
The title, which was originally slated to be released alongside Disney and Marvel Studios' first Avengers film in 2012, was designed to allow players to take control of either Thor, Hulk, Iron Man, or Captain America as they team-up to fight off a Skrull invasion.
New footage and concept art of the game released Saturday, reveal that contrary to most superhero video game adaptations, "The Avengers" would be played from a first-person perspective to give players a more visceral experience when smashing the ground as the Hulk or throwing Captain America's iconic shield.
The story, according to Unseen64, written by famed comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis would have differed from the film and been more similar to Bendis' own Marvel series Secret Invasion which saw the formidable shape-shifting Skrull's attempt to take over the Earth by using the Avengers own superpowers against them.
THQ had developed the project for Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and PC before it was cancelled in 2011 after the company began to tumble down into bankruptcy. Reportedly, the only playable prototype of the game was given to Bendis as a thank you for his work on the title.
