ATLANTA, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- WWE's annual November event, Survivor Series rocked the sports entertainment world Sunday with the crowning of a new champion.

The pay-per-view special featured the final rounds of WWE's championship tournament which culminated in a match between best friends Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose.

The former Shield members battled it out in an emotional match until Reigns gained the upper hand and the three count after surprising Ambrose with a devastating spear.

Reigns' victory celebration complete with fireworks and confetti were cut short however after he was approached by WWE head honcho Triple H. After declining a handshake , Reigns was then taken by surprise by Sheamus, who used his Money in the Bank Contract to earn himself a title match right then and there.

After two brogue kicks to the face, Reigns was down for the count and Sheamus was crowned the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion in surprising fashion. "The #CelticWarrior @WWESheamus has shocked the world at @PhilipsArena!," the company wrote on Twitter alongside a photo of Shamus standing tall over Reigns.

The World Heavyweight Championship wasn't the only title on the line Sunday as Divas Champion Charlotte finally faced off against her rival and former teammate, Paige.

The intense rivalry between the two warriors finally came to a head at Survivor Series after weeks of Paige verbally calling out Charlotte, claiming that she only reached the top due to being the daughter of WWE Hall of Famer, Ric Flair.

Charlotte made Paige pay however when she retained her title after locking the Total Diva in her patent submission maneuver, The Figure-Eight LegLock. "The @WWEDivas Champion @MsCharlotteWWE regains control with the #Figure8, and @RealPaigeWWE taps!," wrote WWE on Twitter alongside a photo of the matches final moments.

Survivor Series also marked the Undertaker's 25th anniversary with the WWE as he returned to the squared circle with his brother Kane to take on The Wyatt Family.
