NEW YORK, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Joseph Gordon-Levitt's collaboration with Seth Rogen for Christmas comedy The Night Before was fueled by regular smoke sessions.

The actor appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live Wednesday night to discuss his work with Rogen, saying the creative process was helped along with the help of marijuana.

"We're all throwing ideas in at the last minute, and there's definitely a joint being passed around the room early in the day," Gordon-Levitt said. He felt the alternative approach to work could be a great idea for him, but later admitted it was more beneficial to take part in the smoke session much later.

"I decided to start smoking at the end of the day, after the work was done," he joked, after noting his comic suggestions were only funny to him. "Smoke at the end of the day, kids...then enjoy your weed."

Gordon-Levitt, who earlier this year starred in the tightrope thriller The Walk, attended the red carpet premier of The Night Before in Los Angeles Wednesday night alongside Rogen, Anthony Mackie, James Franco, Tom Rothman and Jillian Bell, among others.

"It really walks the balance between being ridiculous and entertaining and also being about human beings that you can care about," Gordon-Levitt said at the event of the new holiday flick, according to Hollywood Reporter.
