Oliver Hudson reconnects with estranged dad Bill

NEW YORK, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- Oliver Hudson recently reconnected with his estranged father, musician Bill Hudson.

The 39-year-old actor revealed as much in an interview Tuesday on Watch What Happens Live. Hudson angered his dad by sharing a "Happy Abandonment Day" post on Father's Day in June, but said the jab led to a healthy conversation.

"It actually started a dialogue," he shared. "I haven't talked to my father in 12 years. In my sort of dark, crazy sense of humor, I posted this 'Happy Abandonment Day' thing, which, you know, everyone went crazy about. I was just trying to be funny."

"At the end of the day it was a good thing," he said. "We're communicating now. I had an amazing three-hour conversation with him. We're texting and we're trying to see each other. We might be mending something."

Hudson's post offended Bill Hudson so much the musician disowned him and his sister, actress Kate Hudson, a week after. The actor said his sister, who told Bear Grylls this year she considers Kurt Russell her father, has yet to reconnect with their dad.

Hudson and Kate Hudson are son and daughter to Bill Hudson and actress Goldie Hawn, who divorced in 1982. Hawn started a relationship with Russell the next year, and Bill Hudson is also father to Emily and Zachary by second wife Cindy Williams and Lalania by a long-term girlfriend.
