LOS ANGELES, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- Zooey Deschanel converted to Judaism shortly before marrying husband Jacob Pechenik.

The New Girl actress, previously unassociated with any one religion, made the spiritual gesture for her husband, sources tell Us Weekly. Deschanel, 35 and producer Pechenick, 42, married over the summer just before the birth of their first daughter, Elsie.

A source tells the outlet the couple are "loving the baby and the marriage," since Deschanel converted. However, neither the Rock The Kasbah actress nor her husband have confirmed the news.

Having been raised by a Catholic mother and Quaker father, Deschanel reportedly has said she was encouraged to assign herself to any religion she preferred. "And in the end, I was like , 'Eh," she said. "I mean, I'm interested in theology, and I love reading about it, but I don't attach myself to any one religion or other."
