LOS ANGELES, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Selena Gomez showed her appreciation for Amy Schumer when she presented the comedian with the Hollywood Comedy Award during the Hollywood Film Awards.

Gomez took the stage Sunday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, saying she was honored she was chosen to introduce Schumer instead of the 34-year-old's famous best friend, Jennifer Lawrence.

"I talk about her obsessively," the singer said. "I've tweeted her often. I try to impersonate her and it doesn't really work. I actually just met her so basically what I'm saying is I'm really happy that clearly Jennifer Lawrence wasn't able to do this tonight because I love you.

"You've inspired me to not take myself too seriously," Gomez continued. "When I sit on my couch sort of endlessly depressed about certain things, you've constantly made me feel like I'm a bad-ass. Though most of the time I am not. You say the things I wish I could say. And you never, ever make me feel bad for anything I do in my personal life. Even though you don't know me. So it's fine. Let me make it clear, I'm a huge fan!"

Schumer appreciated all the praise and pointed out that she wanted the pop star to present the award.

"I didn't even ask Jen -- Selena, you were my first choice," she said after taking the stage.

The Trainwreck star took to Twitter later in the night to thank Gomez again alongside a photo of the pair meeting on stage. "Here's who I love @selenagomez is an angel thank you to you and the #HollywoodFilmAwards," she posted.

Other honorees during the event included Robert De Niro, Will Smith, Carey Mulligan, Benicio Del Toro, Jane Fonda, Joel Edgerton, Ridley Scott and the casts of Furious 7 and Straight Outta Compton.

Gomez herself will be honored as Billboard's Chart Topper at the upcoming Women in Music awards ceremony in December.
