LOS ANGELES, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- Olivia Wilde and her co-stars got drunk on the Drinking Buddies set because the movie used real beer for their scenes.

The 31-year-old actress recalled as much in an interview for an upcoming episode of Off Camera with Sam Jones. Wilde, Anna Kendrick, Jake Johnson and Ron Livingston filmed the 2013 movie at an actual Chicago, Ill., brewery in 2012.

"We were hammered the entire movie because it was real beer, because beer on that set was cheaper than water," Wilde told Jones. "[Anna] is [tiny] and she sat down to do the first scene and took a huge gulp of beer, not realizing it was real, and was instantly hammered."

"She was like, 'What's happening? What are you guys doing?'" she related. "And we were like, 'Oh, we forgot to tell you -- the beer's real and everyone's drunk. It's 10 a.m., welcome to Drinking Buddies.'"

Kendrick herself spoke to Vulture about the film in 2013, saying, "I was horrified by the idea that I was going to be the next troublesome star who got drunk and started flipping over tables or whatever. I just tried to sit quietly until I sobered up."

Drinking Buddies premiered at South by Southwest in March 2013, and is available to stream on Netflix. Wilde will star in Martin Scorsese's upcoming HBO music drama Vinyl with Bobby Cannavale, while Kendrick is scheduled for Get a Job with Miles Teller.
