LOS ANGELES, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Lady Gaga recently discussed her struggle with depression and anxiety with Billboard magazine.

The 29-year-old singer covers the publication's 2015 Philanthropy issue with Elton John, and opened up about her personal life in the interview. Lady Gaga established the Born This Way Foundation in 2011 for young people in need of support.

"I've suffered through depression and anxiety my entire life," she shared. "I still suffer with it every single day. I just want these kids to know that that depth that they feel as human beings is normal. We were born that way. This modern thing, where everyone is feeling shallow and less connected? That's not human."

Lady Gaga blamed cellphone and Internet use for growing unhappiness, and revealed her foundation is researching the link between technology and depression. The singer said cell phones and the Internet make for unsatisfying connections, in addition to exposing teens to negativity.

"There is something in the way that we are now, with our cell phones and people are not looking at each other and not being in the moment with each other, that kids feel isolated," she said. "They read all of this extremely hateful language on the Internet."

Lady Gaga is not the only celebrity to publicly address her struggles -- English model Cara Delevingne discussed her own experience with depression in an interview at the Women in the World Summit last week.

"I was [once] completely suicidal, I didn't want to live anymore," she confessed. "I thought that I was completely alone. I also realized how lucky I was and what a wonderful family, wonderful friends I had, but that didn't matter. I wanted the world to swallow me up, and nothing seemed better to me than death."

Lady Gaga last released the collaborative album Cheek to Cheek with Tony Bennett in September 2014, and is working on her fifth studio album. She recently made her first major foray into television, starring as Elizabeth, aka, The Countess, on American Horror Story: Hotel.
