Drake says he 'can't wait' to return to acting

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Canadian rapper and former Degrassi star Drake says he would be interested in returning to acting, if anyone asked him to be part of a film.

The recording artist, born in Toronto, Canada as Aubrey Drake Graham, told W Magazine in an interview published Thursday, he is looking forward to reciting lines in front of a camera again.

"I can't wait to get back into acting," he said. "No one ever asks me to do movies, and, although music is my focal point now, I'd love to do a film. That was the life that I lived before, and it would be interesting to live it again."

Graham, now 29, landed a role as Jimmy Brooks in the popular Canadian teen soap opera Degrassi: The Next Generation at the age of 14. Even at that age, the rapper says he was making music. "That was part of the reason I was kicked off the show," he told the magazine. "Back then, I'd spend a full day on set and then go to the studio to make music until 4 or 5 a.m. I'd sleep in my dressing room and then be in front of the cameras again by 9 a.m."

"Eventually," he explained, "they realized I was juggling two professions and told me I had to choose...I chose this life."

In September, Drake dropped a surprise album made with fellow rapper Future and most recently released a single featuring famed pop-star Beyonce called "Can I." The rapper has not disclosed any further information about possible acting projects, but W Magazine confirms he is in Los Angeles working on his long-awaited album Views From the 6.
