NEW YORK, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Taylor Swift, Idris Elba and other A-Listers are set to host the 2016 Met Gala the Metropolitan Museum of Art has announced.

"Traditionally, the distinction between the haute couture and prêt-à-porter was based on the handmade and the machine-made," explained Andrew Bolton, curator of the Costume Institute to Vogue.

"But recently this distinction has become increasingly blurred as both disciplines have embraced the practices and techniques of the other."

Swift and Elba will share hosting duties with Vogue's Anna Wintour, Apple's chief design officer Jonathan Ive, and designers Karl Lagerfeld, Nicolas Ghesquiere, and Miuccia Prada.

The event, scheduled to take place on May 2, will showcase more than 100 pieces of fashion from handmade couture items to machine-made designs that use laser cutting, thermo shaping and circular knitting to put their fashion pieces together.
