Kendrick Lamar and Big Sean win big at BET Hip-Hop Awards

ATLANTA, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Kendrick Lamar and Big Sean were big winners at this year's BET Hip-Hop awards, taking home three awards each.

Lamar, coming off his successful third studio album To Pimp a Butterfly, won awards for best lyricist, impact track and best hip-hop video for his single "Alright."

Big Sean, who didn't attend the ceremony in Atlanta, Ga., was recognized for best club banger for his track "IDFU" featuring E. 40, and best collaboration for his single "Blessings" featuring Kanye West and Drake. The rap trio also earned the people's champ award for the same song.

Drake led all artists with 12 nominations but only took home two trophies, including MVP of the year.

The show aired Tuesday night and was hosted by Snoop Dog featuring performances by Diddy, Lil Kim, Future and Travis Scott.

In one surprise moment, the cast of Hamilton, the smash-hit hip-hop infused Broadway show about Alexander Hamilton, invaded the program when they appeared together to rap freestyles in character about their play.

After the BET Hip-Hop awards taping Sunday, rapper Scarface was arrested for an outstanding warrant for unpaid child support. Scarface accepted the I Am Hip-Hop Icon award during the event.
