While it's unclear whether or not the rapper's audition was planned, judges Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr., and Keith Urban were surprised after West stepped through the curtain and sang acappella version of his hit song "Gold Digger."

Wife Kim Kardashain shared the event on Instagram posting a photo of West standing in front of the smiling judges with the caption "SURPRISE!"

The 38-year-old was even given the show's signature golden ticket signifying that West had moved on to the next round of auditions.

"He's going to Hollywood!," a tweet read on the official Twitter account of American Idol.

Recently, West opened up about how he was taking his time with his newest current album-in-the-making Swish, and how the project isn't on a fast-track for release.
