Carly Rae Jepsen joins cast of live 'Grease' production

PASADENA, Calif., Sept. 30 (UPI) -- Singer Carly Rae Jepsen has joined the cast of Fox's upcoming live production of famed musical Grease.

The Canadian songstress will join the Pink Ladies crew as Frenchy, the sweet-hearted beauty school dropout, who befriends Sandy Olsen and connects her to the group.

Fox has also announced actress Kether Donohue of FXX's You're The Worst has been cast as the next Pink Lady, Jan. The memorable role of Rizzo, the Ladies' leader, will be performed by live theater veteran Vanessa Hudgens.

Jessie J is expected to pen a new version of the classic movie's anthem, "Grease (Is the Word)." Glee's Zach Woodlee, who has worked on such shows as How I Met Your Mother and films like Eat Pray Love, is set to choreograph.

The new additions also join Julianne Hough as Sandy and Keke Palmer as Marty. Actor David Del Rio will play T-Birds member Putzie alongside Aaron Tveit as Danny and Carlos PenaVega as Kenickie.

Fox announced its plans for Grease: Live last year, saying it will inject a new "star power" into the story.
