New 'Daily Show' host Trevor Noah gives his take on Republican debate

NEW YORK, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- New Daily Show host Trevor Noah appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Thursday to give his take on the recent Republican debate.

The two late night hosts, who have both taken over iconic talk shows recently, discussed their shared experience with Noah revealing some advice former Daily Show host Jon Stewart had given him.

Noah referred to Stewart as "like a Jewish Yoda," after Stewart told him to "Do or do not, no try."

When the 31-year-old comedian asked what form the show should take under his tenure, Stewart said, "The Daily Show is what The Daily Show should be for you to be the best show you can make."

Never one to shy away from politics, Colbert asked the new host what he thought of Wednesday's Republican debate. The South African replied that no one on the debate stage said anything of substance before encompassing the three-hour event in one short monologue.

"We're all greats in this country. Greatness. And the taxes we need to ... with Iran, if we look at what's happening ... Obamacare, no ... we try to find a place where this is a great country ... America. Unity. Justice. Together. Thank you very much," Noah joked, mimicking a typical answer.

Noah was first selected to replace Jon Stewart back in March. "I'm thrilled for the show and for Trevor," Stewart said in a statement. "He's a tremendous comic and talent that we've loved working with."

The Daily Show with Trevor Noah premieres Sept. 28 on Comedy Central.
