LONDON, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- Prince Harry spent his 31st birthday commemorating the Battle of Britain alongside historical aircraft and the veterans who flew them.

The youngest son of the late Princess Diana showcased a full beard during a flypast commemorating the battle's 75th anniversary Tuesday. He reportedly gave up his spot on a two-seated Spitfire aircraft to make sure the last surviving RAF ace could take part.

The event reportedly took place at the Goodwood Aerodrome in West Sussex alongside a service held in London's St. Paul's Cathedral.

The red-headed Prince was surrounded by nearly 40 Spitfire, Hurricane and Blenheim jet planes used by the Royal Air Force during WWII. He will reportedly join his brother Prince William and sister-in-law Kate Middleton later this week at the opening ceremony of the Rugby World Cup.
