Two killed in Colombian plane crash after working on Tom Cruise's movie 'Mena'

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Two crew members who worked on Tom Cruise's movie Mena were killed in a plane crash in Colombia Friday.

TMZ said the small, twin-engine aircraft went down in bad weather near Medellin.

Two American pilots and a Colombian citizen were on board the plane, which had been used during production to transport crew members.

The celebrity news website did not report the names of the dead, but it did emphasize Cruise was not on the plane since he had wrapped filming earlier in the day.

The movie about a pilot who worked for notorious drug lord Pablo Escobar is being directed by Doug Liman.

"An aircraft carrying crew members crashed while returning to Enrique Olaya Herrera Airport in Medellin following production wrap on the film Mena resulting in two fatalities," a representative for Universal, the movie's distributor, said in a statement to Deadline.com. "Further details are not available at this time. On behalf of the production, our hearts and prayers go out to the crew members and their families at this difficult time."

Deadline said the third person on the plane was injured, but the outlet did not elaborate on his condition.
