Grace Jones slams Rihanna, Lady Gaga in memoir

NEW YORK, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- Grace Jones slams Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, Lady Gaga and more in her forthcoming autobiography, I'll Never Write My Memoirs.

The 67-year-old Jamaican-born model, singer and actress criticized several younger stars for being poor imitations of herself in the book, as previewed in an excerpt on the Time Out website.

"Trends come along and people say, 'Follow that trend,'" she wrote. "There's a lot of that around at the moment: 'Be like Sasha Fierce. Be like Miley Cyrus. Be like Rihanna. Be like Lady Gaga. Be like Rita Ora and Sia. Be like Madonna.' I cannot be like them -- except to the extent that they are already being like me."

"I have been so copied by those people who have made fortunes that people assume I am that rich," she related. "But I did things for the excitement, the dare, the fact that it was new, not for the money, and too many times I was the first, not the beneficiary."

Jones came to fame as a model in New York and Paris, and released her first album, Portfolio, in 1977. She is known for the songs "I Need a Man" and "Slave to the Rhythm," the films "Conan the Destroyer" and "A View to Kill," and her avant-garde and androgynous style.

Jones last released Hurricane, her first record in 19 years, in November 2008, and will appear in the movie Gutterdammerung with Henry Rollins and Iggy Pop in 2016. The musical follows a punk angel sent to Earth to "test humanity and set the world on fire."
