NEW YORK, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- The Apollo theater will be the first music venue to hold a permanent hologram installation with Billie Holiday as its first posthumous performer. The new show is scheduled to premiere later this year, just as holiday tourism begins to attract more visitors to the legendary venue. The singer's holographic presence will serve as the first of many to grace the Apollo stage during the day, the theater said.

"The possibilities inherent in this initiative are very exciting, allowing us the ability to show the enduring impact and relevance of artists across time periods and geographical locations" said Apollo Theater CEO Jonelle Procope, according to Phys.org.
The show was created to better accommodate daytime visitors to the landmark, which was one of the first racially integrated clubs in the United States. Currently, there are no scheduled performances during the day, but theater executives believe holograms can fill the gap.
"To be able to bring back epic artists on the historic stage that gave them their debuts is mind-boggling," said Alki David, CEO of Hologram USA, the company also behind Tupac, Selena and Buddy Holly holograms.
"The show will have narrative elements that speak to Billie's life and struggles," David told Wall Street Journal, "as well as her lasting legacy."
