Susan Sarandon brings Timothy Leary's ashes to Burning Man festival

BLACK ROCK DESERT, Nev., Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Actress Susan Sarandon brought some of the late writer Timothy Leary's ashes to the Burning Man art and music festival in Nevada's Black Rock Desert this weekend.

Leary, who died in 1996 at the age of 75 after a battle with prostate cancer, was memorialized following a procession and ceremonial burning of his ashes, USA Today reported Sunday.

"I think he'd be so happy. I think he would have loved the chaos [of Burning Man.] He would have loved it," the newspaper quoted Sarandon, once one of Leary's closest friends, as saying. "And all these people honoring him with LSD."

Sarandon, 68, was one of several people who received some of Leary's ashes when he died. Most of his remains were launched into outer space in 1997, but Sarandon said she kept some.

"When I went to Burning Man last time, that's when I thought I'd bring him back here," Sarandon revealed.
