LOS ANGELES, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Horror master Wes Craven has died of brain cancer at the age of 76, Variety reported Sunday.
The Ohio-born writer, director and producer is best known for his work on the Scream and Nightmare on Elm Street movie franchises.
Among his other screen credits are The Hills Have Eyes, The Last House on the Left, The Serpent and the Rainbow, The People Under the Stairs, Vampire in Brooklyn, Cursed, Red Eye and My Soul to Take.
Craven's official Twitter account posted a photo of the filmmaker Sunday evening, along with the dates 1939-2015.
He is survived by a son, a daughter and his third wife, producer Iya Labunk.
