LOS ANGELES, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Uggie, a canine actor best known for his turn in the 2012 Best Picture Oscar winner The Artist, has died in Los Angeles. He was 13.

His owner, Omar Von Mueller, told TMZ Tuesday he made the difficult decision to have the Jack Russell Terrier euthanized last Friday because he had been suffering from a prostate tumor.

Sarah Clifford, who trained Uggie for his role in The Artist, described the pooch as "a perfect little terrier" with boundless energy.

"I will forever hold him dearly in my heart and never forget his infinite love for chicken and hot dogs," Clifford said.
