One Direction's Louis Tomlinson talks fatherhood on 'GMA'

NEW YORK, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- One Direction debuted their new single "Drag Me Down" on Good Morning America Tuesday.

This is the band's first single since the unexpected departure of former band mate Zayn Malik, who announced that he'd be joining RCA Records just one day prior the song dropping.

The boys sat down with Michael Strahan and Lara Spencer before their performance and discussed whether the group atmosphere has changed with one less member.

"Well, I mean, obviously it's different, but, you know, when you lose a member of your team obviously everyone gets a little bit close together," Liam Payne said. "It's still going great and that's what this album is about we're still going strong and we're all still here so..."

Payne also mentioned the new sound of their latest song and their upcoming album.

"I suppose it's quite eclectic, really," he said. "We took a lot of older inspirations from older artists."

Band mate Louis Tomlinson also opened up about being an expectant father with .

"Obviously it's a very exciting time," Tomlinson said Strahan congratulated him on Briana Jungwirth's pregnancy.

The band performed three songs before the crowd of screaming fans including hits "Steal My Girl," "Story of My Life," and "Drag Me Down."

The band will be performing at MetLife Stadium Wednesday night.
