Disney announces new live-action 'Genie' prequel

WASHINGTON, July 16 (UPI) -- Disney has announced a new live-action Aladdin prequel called Genies.

The new live-action film will focus on the origin story of the Genie made famous by Robin Williams and on the world of genies and where the character came from. Entertainment Tonight reports the film will be an adventure comedy that tells the story of how Genie ended up in his lamp.

Though the film is in the early development stage, Genies is supposed to be a lead up to a live-action Aladdin film according to The Hollywood Reporter. While the film is in the early development stages, Damian Shannon and Mark Swift have signed on to write the film and Tripp Vinson would produce the film.

Disney has made no announcements about who will star in the film or when it will hit theaters.
