NEW YORK, July 11 (UPI) -- Welsh actor Roger Rees has died at home after a brief illness, his publicist said. He was 71.
Variety confirmed the stage and screen star's Friday death, but did not report the cause of it.

Rees was best known for his roles on TV's Cheers, The West Wing and Warehouse 13. He earned a Tony Award for his performance in The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickelby and recently co-directed the Broadway play Peter in the Starcatcher, which was nominated for nine Tonys in 2012.
His film credits include Robin Hood: Men in Tights, The Pink Panther and Frida.
Rees is survived by his husband, playwright Rick Elice.
