LOS ANGELES, July 10 (UPI) -- Vanessa Hudgens and boyfriend Austin Butler cozied up for a new photo this week. The 26-year-old actress and 23-year-old actor shared several snapshots from their southwest road trip on Instagram, including a sunset picture Hudgens captioned, "He's my John Smith."

Hudgens and Butler explored New Mexico and Arizona before returning to California for the MTV Fandom Awards on Thursday. The ceremony took place at San Diego Comic-Con, and will air July 12 at 8 p.m. ET on MTV.
The annual event marked the couple's first public appearance together this year. Hudgens previously dated High School Musical co-star Zac Efron from 2005 to 2010, and has been with Butler since 2011.
Hudgens portrayed Gabriella in the High School Musical film series, and recently completed a Broadway run as the title character in Gigi. Butler is known for playing Sebastian on The Carrie Diaries, and will star as Wil in MTV's television adaptation of The Shannara Chronicles.
