NEW YORK, June 27 (UPI) -- Rock 'n' roll icon Billy Joel says he is looking forward to being a stay-at-home dad after the birth of his second daughter this summer.

"Pretty wild, huh?" the 66-year-old, Long Island musician asked Newsday during his first interview since revealing his longtime girlfriend Alexis Roderick's pregnancy. "I've still got the mojo. I'm excited!"

Joel said he is happy his concert residency at Manhattan's Madison Square Garden will keep him close to home during the child's early years.

"I'm gonna spend a lot of time with this kid," he vowed. "I was thinking about that. I'm probably going to be able to spend more time with this kid than most people are able to spend with their children, because I don't have a regular job. I could be a stay-at-home dad for as long as I can stay alive."

Joel has a solid relationship with Alexa Ray Joel, his 29-year-old daughter with his ex-wife Christie Brinkley, but he admitted he wishes touring hadn't kept him from being around more when she was little.

"I would like to have been around more because I was on the road for years and years when she was a little girl," he said. "And after Christie and I split up, she was in Colorado, so I missed out on some of her childhood, which I would like to have been there for. But now I have a chance to do it better…. Here I go again."
