LOS ANGELES, June 26 (UPI) -- With it's 20 year anniversary around the corner, it only makes sense that a Clueless musical is underway.

The creator of the iconic '90s film, Amy Heckerling, confirmed the news on Tuesday and revealed details about the Broadway adaptation.

"I've written the, what they call the book and it's a jukebox musical," she told Entertainment Tonight.

Kristin Hanggi, who is responsible for directing Rock of Ages, is set to direct the musical and Dodger Theatricals will be producing.

Alicia Silverstone, Brittany Murphy, Stacey Dash and Paul Rudd were part of the original cast that made the film a classic, Heckerling admits that recasting those roles will be one of the biggest obstacles in putting on this production.

Although the musical comes as exciting news to fans of the film, it may be a while until a debut date is announced.

"Everything goes so slowly," Heckerling said. "I thought movies took a long time."
