Arnold Schwarzenegger dishes on son's relationship with Miley Cyrus

LOS ANGELES, June 25 (UPI) -- Arnold Schwarzenegger sat down with Howard Stern Wednesday to discuss his relationships and children, including his son Patrick Schwarzenegger's connection with Miley Cyrus.

"Under normal circumstances maybe I would be nervous," he told Stern on his SiriusXM Radio show about his son's romance with the singer, "but I'll tell you the two reasons why not."

"One is my kids are very strong. They have had their upbringing. They know exactly how far they can go and they should be adventurous, they should venture out and meet different people, so I was not worried about that," he said. "The other thing is when I did meet Miley Cyrus, when she came up to Sun Valley skiing during the holidays, I found out that she was a fantastic person."

The Terminator Genisys actor shared that "little kids" accompanied them on the Idaho ski trip, and Miley was more than generous with them. Cyrus "went out every day to buy gifts for them. She played with them, played with her phone and showed them things," Schwarzenegger shared. Overall, he said, the publicly wild pop-star is a "wonderful" person to be around.

"I think Patrick had a wonderful experience, he had a great relationship, and then a whole thing eventually fell apart," he concluded. The two reportedly split in April.

When it came to his own relationships, the former California governor said his divorce from Maria Shriver in 2011 was one of "the biggest failures" of his life. When it was revealed that he had fathered a child with former housekeeper Mildred Baena, Shriver moved out of their home. The couple tried therapy, but the 67-year-old actor said it was the "biggest mistake."

"In my particular case [therapy] was not helpful," he shared. "I apologized to Maria. I apologized to the kids." Schwarzenegger has four children with ex-wife Shriver including Patrick, 21, Christopher, 17, Katherine, 25, and Christina, 23. He also is father of Joseph Baena, now 17.

"He's terrific, he totally understands the situation," he said of his fifth son. "It's a very tough situation for him. It's a very tough situation for my kids, very tough situation for my family. It was tough for everybody, but it has happened and we have to figure it out, right?"
