VANCOUVER, British Columbia, June 19 (UPI) -- Canadian actor and comedian Rick Ducommun has died in Vancouver at the age of 62.
Ducommun was a supporting player in the 1980s and '90s film classics Spaceballs, Die Hard, Gremlins 2, The 'Burbs and Groundhog Day.
"We are sad to say beloved comedian, actor, family man, and all around amazing guy Rick Ducommun has passed away. Laughing forever. #RIPRICK," his Twitter account said Thursday.
Entertainment Weekly reported it had confirmed his June 12 death was due to complications from diabetes.
"RIP Rick Ducommun," director Joe Dante tweeted.
"Relatively unknown standup comic Rick Ducommon beat out SCTV's Dave Thomas and Rick Moranis for the part of @tomhanks' paranoid neighbor," Dante said in another post. "And knocked it out of the park. ... Lots of the funniest stuff he says was totally ad libbed. A very funny guy who favored me with a cameo in GREMLINS 2. Too young to go!"
