LOS ANGELES, June 17 (UPI) -- Pop singer Taylor Swift is known for her spirited, sometimes edgy, style. But on a recent lunch date with good friend Selena Gomez, the "Blank Space" singer took edgy to a whole new level -- a I'm about to climb a mountain or jump out of a plane level.

As the besties headed toward their location, it's hard to say that pair didn't look a little odd.

Gomez sported a blue tied at the waist button-down to show off some skin, along with a pair of white leggings. Swift on the other hand opted for army green shorts, a black top that read: "This is my fight song," a lyric taken from the single "Fight Song" by Rachel Platten, and was strapped in a harness.

A leather harness...for fashion.

Perhaps the style choice would have made more sense if the two planned on skydiving or rock climbing later, but no, according to ET Online, Swift and Gomez simply enjoyed a quiet lunch at an LA restaurant and were escorted out the back to their vehicles by their bodyguards.

Fans took to Tumblr to comment on the star's look, mainly to tell her she was wearing it backwards, one fan posting a photo of a model wearing a similar harness.

But the seven-time Grammy winner let the fans in on a little secret, saying: "I think you're ignoring a really important point here... That my harness and I are always ready for a zip line/rock climbing."

Swift continued by requesting her fans to do a little soul searching: "Ask yourself.. Are you ready for extreme adventure should it present itself? HARNESS LIFE 2015."

The artist also shot back to the fashion faux pas claims with hashtags that read: "#THAT ISN'T THE SAME ONE BTW", "#AND IT'S NOT BACKWARDS" and "#CHECK FREE PEOPLE DOT COM BYE."
