Lauren Conrad bans potential body-shaming terms from website

LOS ANGELES, June 1 (UPI) -- Reality star-turned-author and lifestyle coach Lauren Conrad announced a key decision to ban any terms considered "body-shaming" from her website starting this month.

In a monthly letter to her subscribers, Conrad, 29, shared her decision to cut terms like "skinny," "slim," and "thin," from her site's content, replacing them with positive terms like "healthy," "fit," and "toned."

"We try do to this for the most part anyway, she wrote, "but now we're making it official! The word skinny will now be reserved for skinny jeans." She shared that she and her editorial team thought long and hard about the change and decided that this was the right thing to do: "we want to make sure that the focus is on being fit as opposed to a number on the scale," she explained.

So along with her summer-themed content -- including fashion, food and beauty tips -- Conrad will feature health and fitness-related articles and bits that exclude terms that may make readers negatively self-conscious about their physiques.

"Every body is created differently -- and healthy bodies come in all shapes and sizes," she continued in her letter. "I hope you find it all inspiring!"

The Hills and Laguna Beach reality star continues to keep busy aside from her popular site. Conrad launched a Minnie Mouse inspired collection at Kohl's in May after a successful Cinderella-inspired selection earlier this year.
