LOS ANGELES, May 26 (UPI) -- Katy Perry says an interview about ex-husband Russell Brand making the rounds is actually from 2012.

The 30-year-old singer declared as much on Twitter after Australian news site The Daily Telegraph published an article about Perry's estranged relationship with Brand over the weekend.

Several sites picked up the story, with many emphasizing how Perry revealed she hasn't spoken to the 39-year-old actor since he "texted [her] saying he was filing for divorce" in 2011.

"It's really inappropriate when journalists repurpose interviews done 3 yrs ago in context of promoting a film & then stamp a new date on it," the pop star tweeted. "The Daily Telegraph & Chris Knowles [thumbs down]."

Perry and Brand met on the set of Get Him to the Greek in 2009, and married in October 2010. The couple were wed just 14 months before the actor filed for divorce, and Perry and Brand went on to date John Mayer and Jemima Khan, respectively.

Perry released her fourth studio album, Prism, in 2013, and will kick off the final leg of her accompanying Prismatic world tour in September. Brand will next appear in Army of One with Nicolas Cage in 2016.
