LOS ANGELES, May 15 (UPI) -- One Direction made their first television appearance as a foursome on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Thursday night.

The remaining members of the band -- Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson -- visited the talk show and discussed Zayn Malik's departure.

Corden first asked the boys, "Are you in touch with him? Have you spoken to him?"

Tomlinson, who recently had a Twitter encounter with Malik after slamming his producer, Naughty Boy, for "riding on the back of someone else career," responded to the host first.

"I mean, yeah, there's been a bit of back and forth," Tomlinson said. "I think we're on good terms with him. I've never been very good at biting me tongue, maybe I get it off me mom. It's just one of those things. Twitter's great for connecting with the fans, but also if you feel like saying something you probably shouldn't, it's also good for that as well -- or bad in this case."

Payne then shared how he first felt when he learned Malik was leaving the band. "At first we were a little bit angry. We were surprised, but I think we all knew the general vibe that Zayn was feeling," he said. "The four of us love every part of it."

Horan said Corden asked if they've ever considered quitting. "The shows have been great, the tour, and the fans deserve it. They've been absolutely fantastic to us."

Horan also revealed that the band is working on their new record while in Los Angeles.

Corden wondered if Styles ever considered adding another person to the band, but he already knew where the host was going with it. Watch the full interview below.

Let's just say the closest Corden will get to being a part One Direction is as their dodgeball coach. Watch the intense match between Croden's Angels and Ball Busters.
