NEW YORK, May 13 (UPI) -- Kelly Rutherford is getting the White House involved in her ongoing six-year custody battle with her ex-husband, Daniel Giersch, to bring her children back to the U.S.

The actress is petitioning to appeal a judge's decision, after he ordered her son, Hermes, 8, and daughter, Helena, 5, to live in France with their father. Giersch claims that his U.S. visa was revoked and he can't enter the U.S.

According to E! News, over the course of the custody battle, Rutherford has spent over $2.5 million, causing her to file for bankruptcy in 2013. After her ex-husband filed paperwork for the couple's children to become "habitual residents" of Monaco in 2012, the actress had to travel from New York to France and Monaco to visit them.

On April 28, a petition was published reaching out to the Obama administration to bring Rutherford's children back to the U.S. The petition states: "The father also recently filed papers seeking to strip Kelly of all parental rights." With the help of the actress' famous friends, it received the goal of over 100,000 signatures.

Some of the Gossip Girl actress' co-stars shared her story on social media, encouraging fans to help with her mission.

Ed Westwick, who played Rutherford's step son in the series, posted a slew of tweets about the petition.

Rutherford's on-screen husband, Matthew Settle, posted a photograph on Instagram. Although they don't know each other, Kim Kardashian voiced support for the fellow mother.
